This feels like a structural shift rather than just randomness. Many systems now optimize around proxies that were originally meant to represent value rather than create it directly. Once those proxies become the target of optimization, the constraint linking effort and reward weakens. The metric can keep improving even as the relationship between work and value becomes increasingly unstable.
